DeMonday for March 1st

March 1, 2010 at 3:12 pm | Posted in Uncategorized | Leave a comment

That’s right, it’s that time of the week again, DeMonday! First, as promised, a fun fact: Did you know that TYPEWRITER is the longest word that can be typed using only one row of a keyboard? Go ahead, look right now, I’ll wait . . . see? Now on to business.

Over the years I have learned that you can achieve anything you desire, you just have to work at it. For example, did you know that DeMolay was just started in Romania this year? This was due to the hard work of individuals who wanted to ensure that DeMolay was there for the young men of their country. It was Thomas Edison who said:

“I never did anything by accident, nor did any of my inventions come by accident; they came by work.”

Nothing was ever achieved without work, but as long as you are willing to put forth a solid effort – anything can happen. Just write down your goal, whether it is holding a successful fundraiser, increasing membership in your chapter, or even getting into the college of your dreams. Then make a plan to accomplish it and stick to it. If you do this, I guarantee that you will achieve it.

As i said last week, believe in yourself as much as I believe in you, and you will achieve great things. Until next week, stay classy DeMolay International!

Fraternally,

Benjamin Turconi
International Master Councilor

DI Introduces “DeMondays”

February 22, 2010 at 3:34 pm | Posted in Uncategorized | Leave a comment

The following is the first installment of “DeMondays,” a newsletter from DeMolay International that will be released on Mondays…check here for it every week or sign up to get a copy in your email from DI.

Welcome to the first edition of DeMondays! This is going to be a weekly publication that will come out on – you guessed it – Mondays. It will be a weekly dose of DeMolay and will be short and sweet, with a fun fact and a quote or story – and maybe even something extra from time to time. It’s that extra shot you need to jump start your week, kinda like espresso without the jitters.

For those of you in the dark (that was a coffee pun) espresso is defined as:”[ehs-PREHS-oh] A dark, strong coffee made by forcing steam (or hot water) through finely ground, Italian-roast coffee especially blended for making espresso. This form of brewing produces a thin layer of creamy, dark beige froth on the coffee’s surface. Espresso is served in a tiny espresso (or demitasse) cup. An espresso doppio [DOHP-pyoh] is simply a double espresso.”

Back to business . . . I write to you today from beautiful Virginia where Jaymie and I are attending the Conference of Grand Master’s of North America. There are Grand Masters, Grand Secretaries, and many entire elected Grand Lines in attendance and tomorrow at the Frank S. Land Breakfast, hosted by Shriners International, I will bring remarks on behalf of each and every one of you in hopes to gain additional Masonic support in your areas. As I look forward toward this tremendous opportunity afforded to me by your confidence in Kansas City, I am reminded of a quote from Robert Kennedy (JFK’s younger brother):

“Only those who dare to fail greatly can ever achieve greatly.”

Never forget that the worst choice you could ever make is not take action at all. Leadership is based upon actions and decisions. You could stand idly by while your Chapter or State’s membership dwindle, or you could take a chance with a new approach to membership. If we do what we’ve always done, we will get what we’ve always got – so let’s shake things up and get DeMolay growing across our nation and the world.

Believe in yourself as much as I believe in you, and you will achieve great things. Until next week, keep DeMolay in your heart and always give it your all.

                                                 In Brotherhood,

                                                  Benjamin Turconi
                                                 International Master Councilor
